Main House

The total area of the main house is close to 400 square metres. It comprises a kitchen, dining room, living room, hall, 3 toilets, 2 shower rooms, 1 bath&shower room and 14 bedrooms to accomodate 32 guests. (click any image to enlarge) Kvednaflaat is remote and we have either neither mobile telephone nor television reception.

The dining room seats 40 around 4 large tables that can be moved into a variety of configurations. It has an open fireplace, large south facing windows, and a door to the south facing terrace. You are of course also most welcome to eat outside. We kindly request that you use the outdoor furniture provided for this purpose, leaving indoor funiture within doors.

The lounge has connecting doors to the dining room. Here you will find a large selection of books (mainly in English and Norwegian), boardgames and DVD's, and of course a DVD player. There is no television reception, and the television is for use with the DVD player only. A collection of DVD's is available - or you may wish to bring some of your own. .The lounge has large south facing windows, and a door onto the south facing terrace.

The kitchen is large with much working space, including large draining boards on either side of the two sinks. It is equipped with an old powerful industrial cooker and a new ceramic cooker. There is a standard dishwasher, a large fridge as well as a fridge-freezer combination. The cupboards house copious amounts of table ware, pots and pans and other kitchen utensils. There is a further chest freezer in the basement. The large cool-room unfortunately needs a new compressor, and is not useable as a result. (If you happen to have a spare one, we warmly welcome a donation....)

In the large entry hall a couch, chairs and a table to provide extra gathering space. Especially youngsters seem to like hanging out here. Immediately adjacent to the hall is the office, where you will find the fire alarm system, overhead projector and screen, as well as outdoor play equipment. The person chosen as fire warden will need to familiarise himself with the way the fire alarm system works, using the instructions provided.

There are a total of 14 bedrooms , divided over 2 sleeping wings. The bedrooms are simple, mostly with bunk beds - there are three quads, nine doubles, and two singles.

There are 3 toilets, two shower rooms, one combined shower&bathroom (and 400l of hot water, electrically heated). Please do close the windows and leave the Heat on * setting in the bathrooms when you leave.

Light wheelchairs users will find that the main house is all on one level, with only small doorsteps, and wheelchair friendly fire escape routes from A wing. The path down to the lake is solid, but steep and may need a helper on the way back up. There is a ramp to the floating jetty for easy access to the canoes and rowboat. For a scaled plan of the main level please see the overview.

A general information list is available online - a copy of this document can also be found in the house.
